Everyone Loves a Commie

The trip to vietnam was actually quite enjoyable, aside from the family shit. My siblings and i had a wager on when the first Chong Family Blowup would occur, steph won on the first day. lol.. But it was overall an eyeopener, just the traffic alone was mind-blowing. It was.. respect man. Srsly.. I've never seen such ordered-chaos in my life before. And everyone there was absolutely lovely, the people were so friendly, especially all the kids! I think xmas eve was the highlight cause vietnam won against thailand in a big soccer match and the streets were just packed with people carrying flags and home-made drums and whistles and just going nuts. There was just the crazy vibe, like everyone was so high-strung, and being in the crowd was a little intimidating, cause everyone's craaaazy on xmas eve. hahaaha after that we headed down to Lush, which is supposed to be saigon's biggest club. It was pretty good, the dj was awesome, and the party was just wicked.

Yeah the sight-seeing was not too bad either, we went to the Mekong river which was cool, and the war tunnels which was pretty insane too just cause of how ingenious the viets are. It was weird seeing how blatantly anti-american they were yet i found myself siding the viets. We also stumbled upon this shop full of original war propaganda posters which was a real eye-opener. Oh and I spent about a hundred USD on two paintings. I got The Elephants by Dali and The Son of Man by Magritte (so arty right). Though I don't think they'll really fit in my room now.. I'm kinda planning to keep them for when I get my own place in the future. Anyways, i shot about 3 rolls of film in Nam, so more will be coming along!

The weird thing is the christmas didn't really feel like christmas this year. In fact, i'm starting to resent christmas a little, in the way that it really fucks up the people who don't have a family to come home to. Steph says tt every year at the hospital there's always an influx of suicide patients coming in on xmas day. This year, a middle-aged woman jumped from the 12th storey, landing right in front of my lift lobby. I'm not quite sure what to make of it.

beer goggles up!

i'm so massively stoned right now. i can't believe that we went drinking again, WHILE hungover. hahahahaha spent most of the night with andrew and heeren yiren, and pat for a little while. awesome friends srsly.. we had a nice civilised drink, about $200+ worth of wine actually. And then we drove over to nus for supper (and i nearly ran over a dog omg) and ended up getting really really stoned. Well, steph, yiren and i were really stoned, seeing as we had the same hangovers. and about 2 hrs of sleep in the past 50 hrs and we're flying off in about an hour. hahaha this has to be the most ace year-end ever.

I can't wait for mei to get back. yesssssss

aaawsum

Last night was massive. It was insane, and so fuckin awesome. Gareth Emery man. is the bomb. And he's such a sweet guy, very down to earth and not one of those up-yourselves sorta djs. Yeh but srsly.. too bad we didn't have a camera, it was insane. we ended up getting home at 8am. hahahaha and i had to get up 2 hrs later for lunch with the family. I think we're still kinda drunk..

Make Garfield Proud

Now I've always been a fan of Current Configuration, since the day they wrote the Essential Life lesson #1: Over is Right, Under is Wrong article. Today, he posted up photos of his 8-month-old daughter, Blackbird. And aside from the strange, destined-to-be-goth/emo name, she's pretty cute. The highlight of the photo series was probably the scary-ass photos of his giant cat, Leto.

Srsly that thing is fuge! or maybe it's just the kid that's tiny. Still scary though, it looks like it could eat her in one gulp! Kinda reminded me of this photo:

On a completely separate side-note, I've also recently taken an interest in Top Gear after Jimmy's recommendation of the Ford Fiesta video. I can't imagine the sort of budget they have to have a full car chase inside a shopping mall and a 5-minute-long scene with the British Navy, with gun-battles and all! I highly recommend it to you guys too, even if you're not a car fan. It's an insanely entertaining video. I just love brit humour.

At least now that my holidays are starting i'll get to watch the rest of their videos.

Tag

I've rarely seen an ad that makes my heart pound like this one. Snickers Tag was done by BBDO Russia and directed by Alex and Steffen of Spyfilms. Those sexy machines were designed by post-production company, Unexpected. This one is definitely one of those memorable ads.. looks extremely high budget as well. The camera action is awesome and the 3D effects are just insane. It actually kinda made me think of one of those crazy action scenes in Transformers. There's also Snickers Rugby! Rest of the series and making of is here.

Stitches

I took great interest in these when they made their first round around the net, most of you guys have probably already seen some of them. So like a magpie, I stored it on my 'etc' folder which is full of random collections from the internet and eventually forgot about it. I stumbled upon one again today and I couldn't get my mind of them, I finally hunted them down and found them at Ginger Anyhow, whom I assume is the one behind them. It's a very basic site but the rest of her collection is there.

After going through her series twice, I realised why I was so attracted to them. They brought about a sense of mildly bitter nostalgia, because these are the sort of messages that we only see at the start, it's the little things that we take for-granted and become an almost forgotten part of our lives. I think the most interesting thing was how seemingly random messages felt so meaningful to me, because they are so easy to relate to. And I love how they are all connected, like little windows into someone's story. It made me want to know more. I wonder if those were the messages she saved from a lost loved one.

I highly recommend viewing the rest of her collection.

Space Invaders 2

I lost my heart to a space invader! hahaha something to rekindle the retro-loving child in all of us, Space Invaders 2. Click the image to play the flash game.

And last but not least, if this looks like a boring old diagram reminiscent of the sort you'd see in secondary school science textbooks, look closlier! That is actually the new design of the next Mac OS interface, which is multi-dimensional (3D). srsly O_O ok. The full article is here, some way too cheem shit for my tired brain , and though it looks revolutionary, I can't see how it will work because it doesn't look like it's maximising the space we have on our desktops. But, I have never been disappointed in Apple, except for the iphone (well.. and Apple TV - wth was that about?), so I'm sure they've thought this one through. I've also heard mention of a Macbook Touch being released, ie. the merge of a macbook and an itouch/iphone. Completely wireless, mouseless and keyboardless. Sound sexy? Next thing you know they're gonna be selling the Macbook Hollogram, or Macgram. Wow so witty. Actually, that sounds more like a new Mcdonalds (who has also redesigned their packaging) burger.

Also found the video of the fat hamster eating popcorn on a piano that Moo told us about which is quite entertaining and irritating at the same time.

Today has turned out to be just.. taxing. In fact, most of this week has been extremely taxing, and it's only tuesday :| I've been drinking a lot of redbull everyday. And it doesn't help that my boss has been playing wine face music like Careless Whisper all day.

Happy Safe Sex

Some very interesting packaging, these almost beat the condoms we got at Roberston Quay. Stay safe over the holidays slarts!

Jules: HAHAHA srsly ur damn lousy k.
Mavis: YES. the world needs more ppl like us.

Zoukout 08

The day after a huge night is always kind of depressing. It's like.. coming back from a holiday, and having to unpack, and knowing it's all over and that you'll have to find something else to look forward to now. Not that I don't have anything to look forward to though, and I know this feeling's gonna be quadrupled when i get back on new year's day.

Last night was, epic. It wasn't a blur but just like so many things were happening at the same time. I think I incurred at least 3 different burns on my hands and feet throughout the night :| I felt like we were running all over the place and dancing our asses off (the electro stage was soooooooo good) until we nearly lost control of our legs. The main arena sucked balls, Sasha and Above and Beyond were pretty shit, though by the time A&B's set came on at 5am we were all so tired tt we were sitting on the sand surrounded by trash and naked gay men and stoning, esp cause trance is so good to stone to.

Surprisingly, I didn't lose anything last night. Here are 5 important lessons i learned:
  1. Julianna Lau Jipeng sux
  2. Damon Albarn look-alike is not as cool as I thought
  3. Playing with sparklers is dangerous
  4. All electro djs look like hobos
  5. My tactic for curing the hiccups also works with chicken nuggets

Something Beautiful

Listening to Plush by The Stone Temple Pilots

Something beautiful, like me. It's called the Waterdrop by Roca, who claims to be the leading global bathroom brand. I'm still not quite sure what it does, but I wouldn't mind having one of those in my bathroom.

Wednesday, December 10

i've been dreaming of a gay christmas

Here's Supermodel Koh (as seen in photo)'s secret santa wishlist!
  1. A thick and veiny cock (dildo/vibrator/buttplug will do too)
  2. High-cut sneakers
  3. Polo Teas
  4. In-Earphones
  5. Chunky Zebra Ring from small shop in far east (ask ade/poo)

Jules:
HAHAHAHHA OH YEAH I ADDED IT ALR!
Mavis: awesumzz

Lets Be Superheroes

Now even though I think PETA fights for a good cause, I really think they are fucking annoying. I'm more supportive of those who back a good cause without being abrasive and in your face, and it's so nice to know that there are people out there who care about the world and want to spread the message in a pretty way, even if 90% of those who see it don't do anything about it.

This video came out a few months back and i raved on and on about it but I don't know why I didn't put it up. Very very brilliantly simple outdoor advertising in New York about the dying polar bears. This piece was put up by Joshua Allen Harris for the Environmental Defense Fund.

Vampires are so in

The Swedish art film, Let The Right One In is the first vampire film I've seen that is completely unpretentious and honest. It's probably the first one I've seen that doesn't try to make vampires seem cool or sexy.

It's about a boy who's the loner in school that gets picked on a lot. He meets this girl who moves in next door, they develop a friendship/relationship and eventually, he begins to suspect that she's a vampire. Now I know my summary sounds lame but I promise it was a fantastic movie. They shot the movie in such a beautiful way, portraying the startling innocence and maturity of the young in the most honest way. Even though the story wasn't full of excitement and action, the way it was shot just made me want to watch it again. It made me want to go to Sweden.

Ready Set Blow

I am damn proud of coming up with two awesome porn movie names today,
  1. Ready Set Blow
  2. Cherry Poppins
though jules wins hands down with Black Cock Down (oh no! we have to get it up again!)

Ready Set Glo with Steve Aoki was fuckin awesome, srsly so satisfying, particularly after the last RSG. I saw everyone tt i wanted to see, and had the most awesome company ever, and the music was fucking good. We had quite a flot of drinks, and while we were waiting for Aoki to come on stage Jules and I had a cock battle (Yo Mamma style).

Jules: I will suck his cock so hard that it will come out through my nose.
Ade: I will suck his cock so hard that it go into my intestines and i will shit it out. Then I'll suck it again.
Jules: I will suck his cock so hard that his pee hole will expand to the size of a vadge.
Ade: I will suck his cock so hard that when he cums, cum will spurt out through my vadge.
Jules: I will suck his cock so hard that it will split into two and then when he cums it will drip out of my nostrils.
Ade: I will suck his cock so hard that it will split into two, and then i'll suck it until it splits again and again until it becomes powder and then i'll snort it and get high on his cock.
Jules: HAHAHAHAHAHA CHEEBYE I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
David, June and June's friend: OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!

And then later...
Jules: Eh dude, don't you think if you got a cock, and put it in a cock-sized coffin and cremated it and then snorted the powder, it would be fucking hot?
June's Friend: I'M NOT GAY!!! but ya that's quite hot.
Ade: dude... that's necrophilia man. Not cool.
Jules: Ya but.. ya. Fuck. True but.. EH DAVID go cremate your cock so we can try!

HAHHAHAHAHA I fuckin love c&c.

The Asian Beach Games

I came across this photo and I was struck by how fake their bodies look. Some very freaky shit.

"Athletes compete in the men's 60kg body building competition on day three of the 2008 Asian Beach Games at Kuta Beach on October 20, 2008 in Bali, Indonesia." [via]

Also have a funny video of Russel Peters making fun of Asians/Singaporeans on our obsession with DDR. hahahaha

Britain's Got Talent

I was watching the video of Busty Heart and I got sidetracked and spent the rest of my night watching America/Britain/Europe's Got Talent and though there are 3483726326274 amazing performances, George Sampson was the one who stole my heart. He is the cutest thing ever! Specializing in freestyle street dance and break dance, he first auditioned in 2007 at the age of 13 to try and win so that he can help to support his family (omg). He never made it to the semi-finals even though Simon Cowell was fighting for him.

But instead of crying, he spent the next 12 months training and performing on the streets to raise money for dance lessons and a trip to the 2008 auditions. This year he won Britain's Got Talent and the top prize of 100,000 pounds along with several contracts. Srsly you must watch his video, he is Justin Timberlake except 10 years younger. I'm so fucking in love with him now, I can't stop watching his videos. The one above is his performance for the 2008 finals (srsly brilliant stuff MUST WATCH!). The video below is his first performance in 2007, i'm sorry i can't stop saying this but he's so fucking cute!!

Human Skateboard

Listening to Cocotte by Teenage Bad Girl

More insanely awesome stop-motion videos (except in GIF this time), same idea as the human skateboard.

Coraline

Came across an article on the much-anticipated Coraline. Their website blew me away, not for the concept but for the trailers and behind-the-scene videos that really open your eyes to the magnitude and scale of the whole movie. The full stop-motion movie was shot in 3D, the final product is so amazingly fantastic that I can't even tell that it's stop-motion. They made hundreds of doll heads in every possible expression along with the in between of expressions!

Anyways, you need passwords to enter the site, and each password will bring you to a different video, pretty interesting shit and they are ALL worth watching. If you're too lazy to guess the passwords, there's a list below.

A Rush of Blood to the Head

Listening to The Scientist by Coldplay

I've had the scientist on loop all day and night. Mei told me off for it.

mei: coldplay only wants make u cry
mei: that's their sole aim
mei: i actually read this review once of snow patrol, saying how their songs are so understatedly emo, like, before they just about to make u sob, they hold back, whereas coldplay just charges right over the edge and sticks a knife in your heart
[Ade]: true
mei: haha
mei: its like, cry NOW
[Ade]: HAHAHAHAHAHAH

I don't know what I'd do without my friends.

Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard

Neon Knights

Listening to street justice by mstrkrft

I am always pleasantly surprised when I read an article that tells me exactly what I am - a sheep. Trends have always amazed me, especially when I consider myself above them. Because I might discover a practically unheard-of band or a cool new dj today and tomorrow it's in Catalog, along with an article about how the indie and electro scene has never been closer and is on the verge of being power-blended together. So how did I come to have a playlist full of electro bands and djs? No one told me to go listen to them, yet it happened to me and it happened to everyone else. It's effing amazing, the mechanics of trends.

Anyways, with my fairly juvenile love of all kinds of techno, trance, eurodance and electro, coupled with my incessant - and sometimes anal - affection for album art AND my infant-like attraction to bright colours, I have come to be a proud owner of this smashing playlist and I would like to recommend them all to you guys, though I don't doubt that you may already have them all. I want to share the love!

On a side note, today is the first day of my life that I've ever bought - and owned - my very own insurance (no one else valued my life enough to get it for me ): Well, if you don't count travel insurance or the shitty medi-shield garbage. I am now insured for everything from losing an eyeball - hurhur creameye - to going insane and shitting all over myself (i highly recommend the c&c boys to sign up for this one). I can even claim for medical expenses if i go to lunway sagoon and fall off an inflatable tube and scratch my knee or fall off my bicycle because i was adjusting my panties! Awesome eh? And all for $21 a month! shioookkk! I'm gonna be living on the edgier from now on. So if any of you guys have a sudden and compelling urge to stab me in the vadge or run me over with a monster truck, please go right ahead cause IT'S ALL GOOD!

Album list in order:
  1. Goose - Bring it On
  2. Teenage Bad Girl - Cocotte
  3. Para One - Epiphanie
  4. Does It Offend You, Yeah? - You have no idea what you are getting yourself into
  5. Soulwax - Most of the Remixes
  6. Cassius - 15 Again
  7. The Infadels - Universe In Reverse
  8. MSTRKRFT - The Looks
  9. The Presets - Apocalypso
  10. The Presets - The Beams
  11. Chromeo - Fancy Footwork
  12. Digitalism - Digitalism
  13. Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours
  14. Cut Copy - Bright Like Neon Love
  15. Santogold - Santogold
  16. Yelle - Pop-up
Happy diu-diu-diu-ing!

Mavis: EH HAHAHAHAH I DIDN'T NOTICE I ADDED NO. 6 ALR!
Jules: ya i know fuck i'm becoming Paju

Me Me Meme

Brilliant ad by TWBA Vancouver [via]

SO, here's 6 not-so-fascinating facts about me:
  1. I am obsessed with buying things that have no use to me (just in case I might need it one day).
  2. I have a tin of ashes from my cigarettes, I pledged to quit when it's full.
    It's almost half-full now.
  3. I think I might shrivel up and die if I went for a month without Asian food.
  4. I often fantasize about running away and not telling anyone so that I can live by the moment.
  5. I sometimes like to eat Bovril out of the jar. Mixed with my best friend's mum's famous chilli sauce.
  6. [EDIT] HAHAHAHAHA YES I CAN'T COUNT AWESOME! HOKAY 6. I am extremely nice and friendly to the maid who cleans our office once a week because I feel guilty for being a bitch to the maid who cleaned my house when i was growing up.
Tagged! I'm officially tagging my most loved friends, Joo, Moo and Poo. And whoever else read this.

Rules! There are too many.. just pass it on (:

Josh Keyes

This is going to be a long post because this guy, Josh Keyes, is just so brilliant. I really want to share his work here but there were just too many out of a massive gallery to pick from.

On a really shallow level, i just love how he dissects things and serves it to you like a slice of pie. But I think the most moving thing about his work is how he uses simple things like a slab of water, an animal, a piece of earth and a bit of man-made debris and puts them together with such empathy and in a way that no one has ever imagined just to show us how beautiful nature is and what we're doing to it.

The man himself, Josh Keyes. I was so moved by his work that when I found out his prints were for sale at USD400 a pop I was ready to buy one on the spot. Unfortunately they were already sold out.
):

If you have the time you should definitely drop by his gallery to view the rest of his set. All of the above are under the paintings section.
